Societies

www.allliancefrancaise.org.uk have absolutely brilliant courses. My local one has a maximum class size of 7 but are usually 3 or 4, which is very intimidating at the start but fantastic for your conversational french. They also have social evenings and outings on a French theme. Very, very recommended! (NB their webserver is very flakey: this IS the correct link, but it does not always work first time)

Magazines

La Vie Outre-Manche and Le Rendez-Vous Français, www.concordefrench.com .  It is issued 6 time a year  for £19.50.  The address is 8, Skye Close, Maidstone, Kent, ME15 9SJ

TV

I'm hoping to start picking up French TV myself in the not toooo distant future, so further info is more than welcome and I'll add it to this list. At present it would seem that digital is the way to go given that the analogue transmitters are gradually being switched off.

Satellite TV links

I nabbed this Satellite Information a week or so back. It's pretty comprehensive and I'm still working through it! Of considerable interest I thought was the programme listing for the Astra 19º satellite (otherwise known as Astra 1; Sky is, unfortunately Astra 28°, aka Astra 2). From what I've read I think (I plan to check this real soon) that your normal Sky digital tuner would do the biz but you will, of course, need another dish or LNB (the thing that pokes out of the dish) as it needs pointed in a different direction).

One thought... it's possible to pick up several French TV channels on the internet (see Live TV France and Live TV Belgium), though, so far, I've not found a great selection (it is early days though). Anyway, potentially this might be a comparably priced option, particularly if you already have a broadband connection.

More anon!
